Every human has the right to safe blood when they need it as part of their medical treatment.  The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service has therefore taken hands with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) in implementing a mass blood drive on Wednesday, 21 March 2018.

We are calling on all new donors and lapsed donors (people who have not donated in the last 12 months) to come forward to donate blood.  Our group O stocks are currently extremely low and we would therefore like to appeal to those donors who know they are part of this group to donate blood.

The #NewBlood campaign is targeting the collection of 4500 units of blood countrywide.  In the Western Cape we would like to achieve 350 units of blood.

We are fast approaching Easter, traditionally a time when we run short of blood.  We are therefore asking everyone in the Western Cape to lend a hand by becoming a blood donor, starting on Human Rights Day.

If you are older than 16 years and younger than 65, weigh more than 50kg, you are healthy on the day of donation and lead a safe sexual lifestyle you can be a blood donor and save up to three people’s lives.  Visit www.wpblood.org.za, call 021 507 6300, SMS ‘Blood’ to 33507 or download our app, WP Blood to find out where to donate.
