The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service has provided the Western Cape with sufficient safe blood for more than 75 years. Donors and recipients are our priority whilst we manage the entire process of blood collection, component processing, testing, storage and distribution. We use the latest technologies and research to ensure blood product safety, and to excel in the science of transfusion. Each year we collect more than 165 000 units of blood that are used to save or improve the lives of more than 495 000 people. Our quality management system ensures that we maintain consistently high standards of service. We operate according to strict standards based on those of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and South African National Accreditation System (SANAS).

Medical Technologist/Trainee Technologist

Main Purpose of Job

  • Perform all administrative and technical aspects in Blood Bank to ensure the correct and accurate release of relevant test results/ blood products for the purposes of safe transfusion.
  • Weekend and after hour call duties will be required.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric
  • Qualified Medical Technologist/ Trainee Medical Technologist (including CPUT students)
  • Registered with HPCSA
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Computer literate
  • Good  interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work as part of a team
  • Must reside within reasonable distance from Blood Bank (call duties)
